Community and Connection
Earlier this year, in Sydney, filmed by the public, there was a tense argument between two passenger commuters on a train that began escalating into shouting. Another commuter, later identified as Ben Baker, chose to intervene. He stepped into the argument quietly rather than aggressively. He went viral mainly for the way he handled the situation. He acknowledged both people shouting, asked them to lower their voices, and suggested they move to another carriage if they wanted to continue the conversation. Shortly after, the two arguing commuters stopped. As mentioned, the clip of Ben circulated widely on social media with a lot of people praising how his calm intervention prevented the situation from escalating further. If we can stay calm in the face of confrontation, others often follow. Some may even say calm behaviour is contagious…

Presence and Gratitude
Not every confrontation that you get into deserves your energy. The task for this week is to choose one moment where you could argue back and consciously decide not to. Whether its walking away or not even engaging in the first place, do not give this confrontation mental energy. You will be better of for this choice, as you are choosing you!
