3 Small Wins for: 'What does Nostalgia actually tell us?'

02/03/2026

Happy Monday!

Blending 3 of our pillars, Community + Connection, Introspection + Reflection, Presence + Gratitude, we bring you 3 small prompts that help you to find more joy in your everyday. 1 community celebration, 1 question to ask yourself and 1 action for you to take…

1 Celebration:

Community and Connection

Whilst research on Nostalgia is limited, existing research* is very interesting. Scientists studying why we feel it and what it does to us have found that the people who experience nostalgia most often are also the people who work hardest to look after their closest relationships. They claim it is because nostalgia keeps reminding them of who matters. It pulls their attention back to the people and the moments that make them feel most like themselves. We can argue that a lot of this world is constantly telling us to move faster, optimise more, and look forward at all times, where as the fact that our brains are holding onto the people we love and pushing us back toward them is worth celebrating!

1 Question:

Introspection and Reflection

Think about something you have felt nostalgic about recently. It could be a memory or a person, a place or a specific time in your life. Ask yourself: what does that memory have in it that your life right now might be missing? Is it more slowness, more connection, more joy, more freedom? Let this guide your next steps!

1 Action:

Presence and Gratitude

This week the action is to treat one nostalgic feeling as a signpost rather than an escape. The next time you catch yourself longing for the past, instead of just sitting in it or pushing it away or coming to a yearning closure saying ‘ahhh good times’, pause and ask what it is pointing you toward. Then take one small step in that direction. It could be calling someone you have not spoken to in a while, revisiting something you used to love doing, or going to a place you keep returning to in your mind.

This week on the podcast Charlie and Dr Marcus explored nostalgia in all its forms, from the psychology of why we feel it to the ways it is shaping culture and politics right now. Listen on Spotify below.

See you next week :)
